Beef Steak Recipe Filipino Style
The beef cut that is usually used is tenderloin, sirloin or top or bottom round. The meat is marinated in soy sauce and calamansi juice (a local lemon). After marinating it, it is pan fried for a short period of time. For garnishing, you could use caramelized onion rings and smother it with calamansi juice and the marinade.
This is a very simple and uncomplicated Beef Steak recipe that will make you ask for more.
Preparation time: 1 hour
Cooking time: 30 minutes
Yield: 3-4 servings
Ingredients:
½ kilo beef, thinly sliced into ¼ inch thick
¼ cup soy sauce
6 tbsp. calamansi juice
freshly ground black pepper
cooking oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
salt
2 medium sized onions, sliced into rings
Cooking Directions:
1. Cut the meat and wrap it in plastic wrap. Pound it with a heavy skillet or meat mallet. Be careful that you do not tear the meat. This ensures that the meat is tender enough. If you have a tough cut of beef, you could cook it in a pressure cooker for 30 minutes.
2. Marinate the beef in calamansi juice, pepper and soy sauce for at least one hour. The longer you marinate it, the better the meat will taste as it will absorb more flavor. Set the marinade aside. Before cooking, let it rest for over an hour at room temperature.
3. Heat the pan and add the cooking oil. Stir fry the onion rings for a few minutes until they become tender. Remove from pan and set aside.
4. Pan-fry the beef in the same pan, but without the marinade, until it turns brown and almost done. You can do this in batches, if you need to. Set it aside.
5. Saute the garlic for several minutes. Put the marinade in the pan and bring to a boil. Add the beef back in the pan, and let it simmer for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until the steaks are tender enough, and the desired thickness of the sauce is reached. Add some salt to taste.
6. Add the fried onions back to the pan, and mix all the ingredients together until they are all covered in sauce. Let it simmer for another minute or two.
7. Serve hot with rice.
8. Enjoy!
